Honoring America’s 250th Birthday, the Twisted Stitchers Quilt Group has completed a 50-year-old project.
Keta Christians, from Beaver and Hoisington, purchased the cross-stitch quilt block pattern for the 1976 Bicentennial of the United States. Christians, an excellent seamstress and quilter, finished 40 large quilt blocks but never assembled them into a quilt. Her family donated the quilt blocks to the Twisted Stitchers Quilt Group after Christians' death in 2025, and the quilt group has completed three patriotic quilts.
The largest quilt is being displayed in various businesses, libraries, and events, with a drawing to be held on Aug. 7 during Labor Day festivities in Hoisington. Raffle tickets are $1 a ticket or 6 tickets for $5. Tickets are available from Twisted Stitchers Quilt Group, members, who represent Great Bend, Hoisington, Claflin, Bushton, Odin, and Ellinwood. A second quilt has already been donated to the Holyrood American Legion.
The Twisted Stitchers Quilt Group is proud to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America by honoring Christians and completing her project intended the celebrate the country’s Bicentennial.
