The Great Bend Recreation Commission Board approved the baseball and softball rules for this upcoming spring and summer. All the rules stayed the same except for one large change to the adult women’s softball league.
With years of not being able to offer a women’s softball league because teams struggle to find 10 or more players to play, Great Bend Rec Interim Sports Director Shane Sandberg presented the 5 x 5 x 5 format, where three teams play against each other in one game.
"You have your five batters, four infielders and the pitcher as a second team, and the four outfielders and the catcher as a third team," said Sandberg. "They'll be able to form teams with only five players to see if we can get some more interest in that."
After three outs, the batting teams will rotate to the infield, the infield team will rotate to the outfield and the outfield team will come to bat. Each inning will consist of nine outs.
The new 5 x 5 x 5 concept for adult women’s softball will begin in June.
