Vertical construction continues at 12th Street and Baker Avenue in Great
Bend, the site of the new Great Bend police station. McCownGordon Construction
receives warmer temperatures this week as they work on the $8.9 million Justice Center,
which will also house the city’s municipal court.
Last week, Interim City Administrator Logan Burns said progress was coming
along nicely.
"One of the floor slabs was poured last week," said Burns. "Exterior framing has happened on the north half of that slab. They will be working on the storm shelter this week, and putting the slab on top of that Thursday."
The 20,000 square-foot facility is expected to be finished by August. The .10%
sales tax increase approved by voters in 2021 will go toward bond debt for the
police station.
The current police station on Williams Street was built in 1938 and is roughly 7,500 square feet.
