Verna J. “Jean” Davis, age 92

Verna J. “Jean” Davis, age 92 years, of Great Bend, Kansas and formerly of Lewis, Kansas and Dodge City, Kansas passed away early on Tuesday morning, March 8, 2022 at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus in Great Bend.  Jean was born on April 3, 1929 at Lewis, Kansas to John Lloyd and Stella Fern (Hainer) Robbins.  She was a graduate of Lewis High School and lived in Lewis and Dodge City for most of her life. Jean was united in marriage to James A. Davis on February 23, 1952 at Clayton, New Mexico.  Together the couple owned and operated several motels in Liberal and Dodge City, Kansas until their retirement in 2006.  Jean dearly loved fishing on their pontoon boat, traveling and camping, and the couple also enjoyed their “part-time homes” in Brownsville, Texas and Springfield, Missouri. 

Survivors include two sons:  Mark (& Karly) Davis of Salina, Kansas and Mike (& Sylvia) Davis of Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren:  Alexus Davis and Jamie Davis; one great-grandson Noah Davis; and one brother William “W.R.” Robbins of Olathe, Kansas.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James A. Davis on January 16, 2010; her daughter Tammy Davis; one sister Betty Pauline Sloan and one brother Lloyd Ross Robbins. 

Graveside funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Wayne Cemetery near Lewis, Kansas.  According to Jean’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.  The family requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be left for the family and a full obituary notice may be viewed at http://www.chartergreatbend.com.
