In less than five months, the Great Bend Police Department will have
access to a new police station. The $8.8 million Great Bend Justice Center
project shows progress each day at the intersection of 12thStreet and
Baker Avenue. Interim City Administrator Logan Burns said McCownGordon Construction is
currently laying bricks near the entry of the building.
"Window frames will begin on Monday," said Burns. "They'll soon start on the site utilities and work their way south. Inside the building, sheetrock is being installed on the court side."
The 20,100 square-foot facility is expected to be finished by September. The
.10% sales tax increase approved by voters in 2021 will go toward bond debt for
the police station.
The current police station on Williams Street was built in 1938 and is roughly
7,500 square feet.
