Five years ago for $50, the Hoisington Public Library had inmates from an Oklahoma prison scan all of the available Hoisington High School yearbooks to make them viewable online.
Library Director Karen La Pierre said some of the yearbooks from the first year, 1917, until 2018 are missing, or were never published due to war years or the Great Depression. The majority of the yearbooks are digitized and searchable through a website.
"This is the time of the year where there are reunions," said La Pierre. "Hopefully, we'll get more feedback and get more and more use out of it."
Unfortunately, the prison no longer performs the digitization program so La Pierre said the library is looking for another company to scan the yearbooks from 2019 to present day.
The yearbooks are searchable at the website hoisingtonpl.weebly.com. On a desktop computer, search the word yearbooks in the search box. On a phone, click in the upper left of the page, followed by services and digital services.
