Great Bend Police patrol vehicle #82, a 2023 Ford Police Interceptor, was involved in a motor vehicle accident on April 30, 2024 at the intersection of 12th Street and Jefferson Street. The vehicle was deemed a total loss.
Police Chief Steve Haulmark said the officer driving was not at fault, and the city’s insurance agreed to pay the majority of the replacement.
"We reached out to a local Ford dealership here in town (Marmie Motors)," said Haulmark. "They did not have any replacement Police Interceptor vehicles and did not intend to be getting any anytime soon. We reached out to Superior Emergency Response Vehicles (SERV) who does our outfitting out of Andover. They had a vehicle in stock and gave us a quote for the replacement vehicle."
The cost from SERV for a 2024 Ford Police Interceptor vehicle is $50,903.25. Insurance initially agreed to pay for just over $17,000 but the city eventually received $44,102 from insurance. The remaining funds of $6,801.25 will come from leftover insurance and trade-in money from previous patrol vehicles.
