Rosewood Winery in Pawnee Rock was named as a “Top 10 Winery in Kansas” by Choice Wineries. Choice Wineries is an online blog designed to help everyone with their wine drinking experience. The organization identified the best wineries across the country, examining 6,700 wineries, then ranked the top ones by state.

According to Rosewood’s Winery Manager Alex Hammond, the winery in Barton County is the only winery in the nation that is devoted to providing employment opportunities to people with developmental disabilities.

"It's always great to be recognized for bringing people a great wine, but the main focus I like to shine light on is the purpose of this," said Hammond. "It's about giving the individuals we serve another work opportunity."

Rosewood was ranked #2 in the state according to Choice Wineries. Hammond said Rosewood has close to 30 wines available year round, with their best seller being their blackberry cabernet.

Rosewood’s clients are involved with the wine creation every step of the way.

"They're there starting wine on Mondays and then transferring and filtering the wine," said Hammond. "They also help in sanitizing the bottles. On bottling day, they take on bottle filling, corking, shrink wrap, wiping them down, labeling, date sticker and packing them up."

Along with the winery in Pawnee Rock, Rosewood has an outlet location in Great Bend named the Wine Cellar that sells their product. Through a distributor, their wine is sold at dozens of liquor stores throughout Kansas.
