Drivers are advised that now through Labor Day, Sept. 1, law enforcement agencies around Kansas are cracking down on driving under the influence. The effort is part of the state's You Drink. You Drive. You Lose. campaign.

The 2024 statistics from around the state in 2024 are eye-opening: 83 people died and more than 1,100 more were injured in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver.

It is illegal to drive while impaired, whether it be from alcohol or other controlled substances. Driving impaired causes lapses in thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. Fines for driving while impaired can range into the thousands while also resulting in higher insurance premiums, jail time, and a suspended driver's license.

Law enforcement agencies also remind drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts. Drivers may be pulled over if not wearing a seat belt and subject to a $30 fine.
