United Way of Central Kansas needs your artwork. UWCK Executive Director Charell Owings said the non-profit is partnering with TruStage, AllStaff, Chtd., and University of Kansas Health System-Great Bend Campus to create Boxes of Love to give to homebound seniors in Barton and Pawnee counties.

"We're looking at probably doing up to 500 boxes for individuals who receive Meals on Wheels, anyone who gets ElderCare Home Services, anyone who picks up food at the senior centers, as well as nursing homes," she said. "We're really just spreading the love."

Each box will contain a mix of fun and useful items, including chocolates and hygiene items. One of the most important items in the boxes is the handmade Valentine's Day cards. Owings said the cards can be a great project for daycares, classrooms, or youth groups.

"Anyone and everyone that has kids that need something to do, it's a great thing to have them do," she said. "You can also talk to them about why they're doing it and who they're doing it for. It can really open up a conversation with the kiddos as to how they can volunteer in so many different ways."

Cards need to be turned into the UWCK office, 2000 Washington Ave. in Great Bend, by Feb. 3, or a pick-up can be arranged. Boxes may be purchased for $15 and will be delivered on Valentine's Day. CLICK HERE for more information or to purchase a box.
