SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Yadier Molina homered leading off the third inning for his first RBI of the season, Tommy Edman hit a two-run single and another RBI single, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the stumbling San Francisco Giants 7-1. Edman singled in the fifth to back right-hander Miles Mikolas and again in the Cardinals’ four-run seventh. Tyler O’Neill added a two-run single that inning and Juan Yepez also singled home a run.

UNDATED (AP) — An agent’s brazen demand made on behalf of University of Miami basketball star Isaiah Wong has provided a rare glimpse into the way elite college sports have been transformed by athletes’ rights to be compensated through endorsements. The agent said, essentially, pay Wong more or he will transfer to a school that will. Labor experts say the incident highlighted a new reality: NCAA athletes in high-profile sports such as football and basketball are being treated like professionals, potentially in violation of the rules. Some labor experts say the solution may be to just start treating athletes more like employees, something the schools have resisted.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — College sports leaders visited Capitol Hill, asking lawmakers to consider rules to govern name, image and likeness money for college athletes. Greg Sankey of the SEC and George Kliavkoff of the Pac-12 were scheduled to meet with lawmakers on both sides of aisle. The NCAA is trying to clarify existing rules to prevent boosters from being involved in recruiting. College sports leaders are skeptical about the NCAA's ability to crack down in so-called collectives founded by wealthy boosters.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis center Steven Adams has cleared the health and safety protocols and should be available for Game 3 of the Grizzlies’ Western Conference semifinal with the Golden State Warriors on Saturday. Coach Taylor Jenkins says they will make a decision after seeing how Adams handles Friday. Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks has been suspended for one game without pay by the NBA for making “unnecessary and excessive contact” that resulted in a fractured elbow for Golden State’s Gary Payton II in Game 2. Brooks must sit out Saturday’s Game 3 with the series shifting to Chase Center in San Francisco tied at one game apiece.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton will miss at least two more games in the Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Boston Celtics as he recovers from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Middleton hasn’t played since injuring his knee in Game 2 of the Bucks’ five-game, first-round victory win over the Chicago Bulls. The Bucks and Celtics are tied 1-1 heading into Game 3 on Saturday in Milwaukee.

COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers added another veteran to their defense, signing outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy will be going into his ninth season. He had 66 tackles for the New England Patriots last season and was second on the team with five sacks. He also returned an interception for a touchdown. Van Noy was released by the Patriots in March.
