Temperatures in the 70s make it feel a little less like Christmas, but the warm weather is not stopping local organizations with their holiday plans. The Kansas Wetlands Education Center is preparing for its Holiday Open House. Director Curtis Wolf said the gingerbread birdhouse decorating event is usually a big draw, but this year will feature a new come-and-go activity.
"We're going to decorate some sugar cookies, and we're also going to do a little Christmas ornament craft that people will be able to do. You don't really need to register for any of those. We'll be there on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9-noon."
The Holiday Open House is also a way for KWEC to feature the many unique items in its gift shop. Starting Friday, Nov. 24, mention hearing the promotion on the radio and receive a discount.
"We'll give you 40 percent off a single item," Wolf said. "Just mention you heard that (on the radio) and we'll take that off your bill. That starts on Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving on Nov. 24, and will go through the end of the year."
KWEC also returns its Christmas goose contest. Find the bird somewhere in the exhibit hall and enter your name to win a $50 gift certificate.
