The Barton County Historical Society will host a volunteer orientation at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 12 at the museum, 85 S. Hwy. 281, Great Bend. Anyone who is interested in volunteering may attend the short orientation for information about various volunteer opportunities and upcoming events. Current volunteers are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.
Some volunteer opportunities include working with the collection by cataloguing or scanning objects, doing research, giving tours to children or adults, gardening and other lawn maintenance, helping design exhibits, and many other important tasks for maintaining the collection and buildings.
The historical village will change to summer hours beginning Tuesday, April 7, running through the end of October. Hours will be Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays.
Those attending the orientation have no obligation to volunteer, yet are invited to the free event to learn more about the museum and Barton County’s history. For more information about volunteering, please contact Karen Naylor, volunteer coordinator, at (620) 793-6394.
