
On Thursday, June 29, just after 1 a.m., a Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle in the 1800 block of 24th Street in the City of Great Bend. The vehicle was stopped for an equipment infraction. During the course the traffic stop the deputy noted the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
An interior search of the vehicle was conducted at which time the deputy located a substantial quantity of methamphetamine as well as a smaller quantity of marijuana.
The driver was identified as Travis Chism, age 47 of Ellinwood. Chisholm was arrested at the scene and transported to the Barton County Jail without incident. Chism was booked on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. He’s currently being held on a $100,000 bond.

Two passengers in the vehicle were also placed under arrest and taken to jail. Jeff Dewey, age 60 of Great Bend, was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $100,000.
The third occupant was identified as Jonathan Hiner, age 50 of St. Mary’s, was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine. He’s being held on a $10,000 bond.
