On Thursday, March 14, at about 12:39 a.m., Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 487 SE 80th Avenue for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 30' x 30' shop building completely engulfed in flames.
Initial investigation indicates welding activity was in progress in the building when sparks or slag ignited the insulation in the wall. Witnesses stated the fire quickly spread and the four individuals in the shop were unable to bring it under control. The building was a total loss. There were no injuries.
The Ellinwood Fire Department brought the scene quickly under control and was assisted by fire crews from the Great Bend Fire Department.
