Great Bend Rec readjusts reopening plan

The Great Bend Recreation Commission primary goal of the Recreation Reopening Plan is a phased in approach to the re-opening of the recreation system in Great Bend. This plan is based on the best information that is currently available and may change dependent upon the status of the pandemic.

The Recreation Commission will adjust its operations and program availability to align with Kansas Governor Kelly’s official plan of action for the state and health and safety guidelines as needed.

Highlights of Phase 1 Earliest Possible Date: May 4, 2020

• Stay at Home Order Lifted
• May 11, 2020-Resume in person meetings at GBRec offices, monthly board meetings
• No Outdoor reservations or organized team playing on fields, courts, sports facilities
• No recreation programs held
• Closed public access to Recreation Centers, City Auditorium, Cavanaugh Wellness Center, My BackYard Playground

Highlights of Phase 1.5 Earliest Possible Date: May 18, 2020
• Rec Operations will operate at 50% capacity
• GB Recreation Center, GB Activity Center, City Auditorium, My BackYard Playground will not open.
• Cavanaugh Wellness Center will open with limited hours
• Veteran’s Park Fields, Disc Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Harms, Brit Spaugh fields open
• Not open for organized sports, games, practices, tournaments, leagues, scheduled tennis/pickleball lessons, sport scrimmages and no single team practices on School ball fields, Veteran’s Park Fields, Disc Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Harms, Brit Spaugh fields

Highlights of Phase 2 Earliest Possible Date: June 1, 2020
• Rec Operations will operate at 50% capacity
• GB Recreation Center, GB Activity Center, Cavanaugh Wellness Center open with social distancing restrictions, limiting 30 people in active zones
• My BackYard Playground Opens
• Restrictions in place for drop-in activities at Recreation Centers (check with GBREC office)
• Exercise programs resume
• Sports Tournaments resume at sports facilities
• Veteran’s Park fields, Disc Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Harms, Brit Spaugh fields and school ballfields re-open with social distancing, limiting 30 people in active zones
• Veteran’s Park fields, Disc Golf Course, Tennis Courts, Harms, Brit Spaugh fields and school ballfields reopens for games, leagues, schedule tennis/pickleball lessons, practices & scrimmages

Highlights of Phase 3 Earliest Possible Date: June 15, 2020
• Rec Operations at 75% capacity
• Swimming lessons, summer youth programs, youth camps will begin
• Restrictions in place for drop-in activities at Recreation Centers through August 1, 2020
• Remaining summer recreation programs can begin
• June 29, 2020 GBRec Softball/Baseball Leagues will begin

Highlights of Phase 4 Earliest Possible Date: June 29, 2020
• Rec Operations at 75% capacity
• Activities return to normal

Highlights of Phase 5 Earliest Possible Date: July 13, 2020
• Summer Rec Programs will conclude the week of August 10, 2020
• Rec Operations will operate at 100%
• Mega Balloon Festival, Oozefest will be held
