Grace M. Drennon, age 95 years, a lifelong resident of Barton County, passed away on Monday morning, April 27, 2020 in Great Bend, Kansas.
Grace was born on July 4, 1924 at Great Bend to Richard and Edith (Crowell) Schneider. The family lived in Albert, Kansas and she attended Country School until Grace was old enough to go to High School, at which time they moved to Great Bend. Grace graduated from Great Bend High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to Daniel M. Drennon on April 19, 1944 at Great Bend, Kansas. Grace worked for many years as a Sales Associate for Montgomery Ward and later Sears, both in Great Bend, until her retirement in 1965. She then provided child care for her grandson, Danny Cates.
Grace volunteered at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend for over 20 years. She loved crafts, ceramics, playing Bingo, and traveling, and one of her favorite things was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and her cat Miss Kitty. Grace was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Allen (and his wife, Shirley) Drennon of Hays, Kansas and one daughter, Beverly K. Cates of Great Bend, Kansas; three grandchildren: Kris Drennon, Tammy Roberts, and Brian Drennon; one granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Cates; seven great-grandchildren: Ryan Cates, Tyler Cates, Dylan Roberts, Kylie Roberts, Chase Drennon, Ashton Drennon, and Camden Drennon. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Daniel M. Drennon on December 3, 1995, her son-in-law Dale Cates on May 10, 2009, and her grandson Danny Cates on August 5, 2013.
Cremation has been chosen. A Graveside Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas. Memorials may be directed to Kindred Hospice of Hutchinson, Kansas or the Golden Belt Humane Society of Great Bend, Kansas.
