A public hearing for a dangerous building was held Monday night during the Great Bend City Council meeting. Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns informed the board of the status of the deteriorating accessory structure at 2421 12th Street.
Burns said there is roof exposure and leaning walls due to braced wall conditions.
"There are tree limbs up against the structure," said Burns. "This is not the owner of the property doing this. We had some individuals that were staying there but have since taken care of. There are tree limbs currently holding it up."
The first resolution of the dangerous structure was passed on Jan. 15, was mailed certified to all owners or lien holders, but everything came back unclaimed. Burns said the house on the property will be coming before the council soon.
"We were able to get in on a search warrant of the actual house," said Burns. "The Barton County Sheriff's Office served that and gave us a call. We will be looking to bring the house up on a public hearing as a dangerous building as well because it's in no better condition."
The structure will need to be repaired or destroyed by April 5.
