Michael Charles Mooney, 67, died Dec. 17, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born July 29, 1955, in Ellinwood, the son of Charles and Beatrice (Lubbers) Mooney. Mike graduated from Bushton High School in 1973.
On Dec. 24, 2004, he married Rena Jean Glenn in Hoisington. She survives.
A lifetime resident of Rice and Barton Counties, Mike mainly worked as a pumper in the oil field, a job he loved. He was also a mechanic and owner of Mike’s Place a bar in the rural Bushton area.
Mike’s hobbies included racing of all kinds, especially dirt tracks and mudding, often helping friends in demolition derbies just for the fun of it. He had a patient ability to make and restore clocks and pocketwatches with tiny gears and mechanisms with exact precision. Mike could usually be found enjoying time with friends at his favorite place, The Odin Store.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rena Mooney of the home; a daughter, Jessica Babcock and husband Brent of Lewis; three grandchildren, Presten, Austin, and Jayden; a sister, Patricia Hinojos of Cassidy; and nephews, Miguel and Jose Hinojos, both of Cassidy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Mooney.
Remembrance Service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel.
