Over 40 years.

More than four decades of service with the Great Bend Fire Department.

It is a remarkable time of service, but due to restrictions from COVID-19 orders, there was not much of a formal celebration for the announcement of Battalion Chief John Stettinger’s retirement last week. Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis says that will be changing once gathering restrictions are lifted and things go back to normal. At that time, Stettinger will receive the proper farewell he deserves.

"We promised him a retirement reception when things get back to normal," said Francis. "We will twist his arm and get him back here and give the public an opportunity to wish him well."

Stettinger started working for the Fire Department on December 16th, 1979. His final shift was April 2nd, 2020.

"Congratulations and a thank you to John," said Francis.

Fire Chief Luke McCormick stated Stettinger served the citizens of Great Bend with uncounted dedication and commitment to their protection and wellbeing.
