The next Great Bend City Council meeting that takes place on April 6 will be conducted remotely, meaning the council chamber at City Hall will be empty.
Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis says that council members and city staff will conduct the meeting from home in response to the threat of coronavirus.
"We will be conducting the meeting over Zoom video conferencing, an all-digital platform," said Francis. "We will continue to stream the meeting on Facebook live.
City Hall and the rest of the city buildings and parks remain closed to the public in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus.
"We will get information to the public on how they can access the meeting via Zoom," Francis said. "This fulfills out obligations with the Kansas Open Meetings Act. This allows us to still do business and handle it remotely."
The Great Bend City Council meetings are scheduled the first and third Mondays each month at 6:30 p.m.
The Barton County Commission will switch to online efforts as well for their weekly Monday meetings at 9 a.m.
