Karsyn Smith of the Barton Community College softball has been named the season's initial KJCCC Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Smith recorded a career high seven strikeouts Saturday against Hesston College earning her second victory of the year. Walking just one in her complete game, Smith settled down after the first inning to limit the Larks to just five more hits and one earned run the remaining six innings as the Cougars improved to 3-0 on the early season behind the 6-4 victory.
Weather permitting, the Cougars hit the road for their next contests, heading to Harrison, Arkansas, for a four-pack of games this weekend. On Friday Barton will take on Southwest Tennessee Community College at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. contest against host North Arkansas College. On Saturday the Cougars play at 11:00 a.m. against Metropolitan Community College before winding up the road trip with another game versus the host Pioneers in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
Barton next home game is on Tuesday in hosting Cowley College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
