Great Bend man avoids injury after semi struck van

WASHINGTON COUNTY— One person was injured in an accident just before 7:30a.m. Friday in Washington County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Chevy Venture mini van driven by Michael J. Purcell, 42, Barnes, was traveling on U.S. 36 just west of Thunder Road.

The van crossed over into the westbound lanes. A 2020 Peterbilt semi driven by  Folk, Benjamin R. Folk, 27, Great Bend, struck the van.

EMS transported Purcell to the Washington County Hospital. Folk was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
