Anyone who has ever missed a court date can testify how important those hearings are. Now, the Kansas Judicial Branch is offering text reminders to remind parties of upcoming hearing dates.

The automated text message reminders are a simple way to avoid missing important court dates. The program provides courtesy SMS reminders for upcoming court hearings. Messages are intended as a supplemental service and not a replacement for official court orders or mailed notices.

While many case types are eligible for the service, including civil, small claims, limited action, domestic, traffic, criminal, and probate, others are not. Case types not eligible for message reminders include protection from abuse, protection from stalking, care and treatment, adoption, child in need of care, guardian or conservator, statutory liens, and state or property tax cases.

Registering for the service is as simple as completing a quick online form with information, including the case number and phone number where the message will be sent. Users will receive text message reminders three days and one day before the scheduled hearing.
