The City of Great Bend is ready for Burns & McDonnell to conduct a walk-through inspection of the Great Bend Municipal Airport’s runway project sometime within the next couple of weeks. After that, all that will be left will be the permanent paint for the runway next spring.
Public Works Director Scott Keeler was pleased to have the project coming to an end that kept Runway 17/35 closed while it was completely reconstructed.
"This is one of the final walk-throughs in mid-December," said Keeler. "The permanent paint will follow in the spring when it warms up and that will be the final inspection."
Great Bend was able to get partnerships with both the Federal Aviation Administration and the Kansas Department of Transportation to cover 90-percent of the costs to resurface 7,851 feet of runway.
The project started in April 2019 and is expected to cost the city $782,123 for their 10-percent share.
