TOPEKA (KSNT) – JHX Hoops erased a 14-point deficit to take down Purple Reign in Game 2.
Frank Mason III hit the game-winning shot to push Kansas’s alumni squad over the 83 target score, to help keep his team alive in the tournament.
Mason led the team with 23 points; behind him was Billy Preston with 18 of his own, Zeke Mayo with 15 and Washburn’s Jacob Hanna with 12.
“I’m really happy we came out with the victory,” Mason told 27 Sports. “We were down 14 in the fourth quarter, and it was an unbelievable comeback, so really happy about that.”
For Purple Reign, Xavier Sneed delivered once again, putting up 27 points. Behind him was Michael Beasley with 16 and Shaun Williams with 15.
Approaching the target score, Mayo hit a three-pointer to make it a 79-78 game, and then Preston hit a jumper to put KU just one point away from the win.
A winner-take-all Game 3 is set for Friday, July 22 at 8 p.m. inside Bramlage Coliseum.
