Mader's 3-1 day highlights Barton Wrestling at Loosbrook Duals

The Barton Community College wrestling team opened its dual season Friday afternoon going 1-3 at the Loosbrook Duals held at the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium in Atchison, Kansas.

Four different Cougars secured multiple wins over the day led behind sophomore Jarret Mader's (149-division) 3-1 performance while Jamal Garrett (125-division), Edgar Duarte Quiroz (184-division), and Nathan Agudzi-Addo (285-division) each providing a pair of victories.

Next up for the Cougars is Saturday's 9:00 a.m. Service Salute Open to conclude the final leg of a two-day stay in Atchison, Kansas.

Barton surrendered 12 points in each of its four duals, forfeiting open weight classes in the 157, and 197 divisions.

The Cougars opened the competition against NAIA foe William Woods Community College earning five victories in the 10 matches edging out the Owls on the scoreboard 29-27. Barton's wins came from Mader's (149-division) 21-2 tech fall, Agudzi-Addo (285-division) 39-second pin, and trio of forfeit wins by Garrett (125-division), Joshua "AJ" Almanza (133-division), and Duarte Quiroz (184-division).

Falling 52-0 to Division II opponent Quincy University, Barton came back in the third match of the afternoon dropping a 42-9 decision to four-year Hastings College. Ethan Boles (141-division) and Mader (149-division) mended the lone Cougar victories with a 5:33 fall and 10-5 decision respectfully.

Facing Colby Community College in the finale, the Cougars and Trojans exchanged blow for blow with Barton falling on the short end 25-24. Garrett's (125-division) 10-7 decision and Mader's (149-division) 2:58 back flattening knotted the match at 9-apiece over the opening four bouts. Earning an exhibition win in the opening dual of the day, Kaden Foster (165-division) entered the Barton lineup scoring a 10-3 decision pulling the Cougars within 15-12. Following a 12-2 major decision securing the Trojan victory with the Cougars open at the 197-division, Duarte Quiroz (184-division) delivered his first collegiate victory behind a 5:37 pin with Agudzi-Addo (285-division) fashioning his second fall of the afternoon in a span of 1:50 to conclude the day.
