The lines were drawn for Monday's Senior Night at the Walnut Bowl. The reigning Class 5-1A Lady Panther squad handily defeated Garden City, including a 13-0 score in Western Athletic Conference scoring. The Garden City boys, who have back-to-back top-four finishes in Class 6A, did the same on the boys' side.
Great Bend again had four of the top-five girls bowlers. Kaylin Wahlmeier ended with games of 219 and 216 to lead the way with a 619 series. Garden City's Hope Resendiz finished second overall with a 581 series. The rest of the Lady Panthers were highly competitive with the next three finishers separated by just four pins. Brooklynn Mayberry finished with games of 189 and 199 to place third with a 532. Zoey Mayberry rolled a 214 in game three for a 528 series in fourth. Paige Heine came out of the gates with a 201 to finish with a 524 series in fifth. Emilee Nelson also started strong with a 182 for a 499 series, and Rionna Rodriguez finished strong at 187 for a 461 series. Great Bend cruised through the first three Baker games and edged the Buffs 157-154 in the final game to complete the sweep.
The Garden City boys fell short of a 700 series but still took four of the top-five finishes. KJ Burns had the series at 689, and Kaden Strasser opened with a 242 to place second with a 645 series. Great Bend's Brantley Vsetecka had the high-game at 243 to move into third place with a 597 series. Daegan Miller opened with games of 201 and 186 to finish with a 528. Joshua Manning was consistent with games between 142 and 168 for a 467 series, and Quinten Miller finished with a 174 for a 453 series. Kenneth Leiker rolled a 353 series, and Keaton Wahlmeier gained steam throughout the day to finish at 342 pins. The Buffs stayed above 200 for the first three Baker games, then defeated the Panthers 153-117 in the finale to complete the sweep.
The bowlers travel to Liberal on Thursday.
