The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the handling of Jalen Hurts’ blood clot diagnosis. The league and players’ union released a joint statement Sunday saying they are looking into it after the NFLPA called for an investigation earlier in the week. Hurts was placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss the rest of the season after a blood clot in his left calf traveled to his lungs. The Eagles and agent Nicole Lynn said Monday that Hurts has deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. His treatment involves blood thinners, and Hurts won't be allowed to participate in any football activities until he is off them.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Sal Frelick tied the score with his first home run in three months, Cooper Pratt hit a go-ahead single in the seventh inning and the Milwaukee Brewers stunned the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 for a 2-0 World Series lead by overcoming a four-run deficit for the second time this postseason. Tampa Bay, which won the American League pennant in part by consistently forcing opponents into mistakes, committed one error, made two other misplays on defense and had a runner thrown out at the plate by Brewers left fielder Jackson Chourio. Down 4-0 in the first inning, Milwaukee rallied for its seventh comeback win of this postseason.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Freddy Peralta spent his first eight major-league seasons trying to help the Milwaukee Brewers earn the World Series berth that continually eluded them. Peralta finally is in the Fall Classic. So are the Brewers. They just happen to be on opposite sides. The oddness of this scenario is apparent as Peralta has received cheers from the Milwaukee crowds even as his Tampa Bay Rays try to prevent the Brewers from winning their first World Series title. Peralta will be Tampa Bay’s starting pitcher in Game 3 on Monday.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Much like Warriors coach Steve Kerr did in 2015 moving Andre Iguodala into the starting lineup against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the franchise's first championship in 40 years, Natalie Nakase shook up Golden State's starters for Game 4 of the WNBA Finals against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream, and it paid off with her Valkyries evening the best-of-seven series at 2 all as it heads back to the Bay Area for Game 5 on Monday night.

Week 8 of the college football season was almost as eventful as Week 7 and significant adjustments to The Associated Press Top 25 are likely when the poll is released Sunday afternoon. No. 2 BYU, No. 7 Mississippi and No. 8 Texas Tech were top-10 teams knocked off and five Top 25 teams lost to unranked opponents. BYU’s 39-31 double-overtime loss at UCF clears the way for No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Georgia to each move up a spot.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Duke and Kansas are set to face off in a rare on-campus basketball matchup on Sunday. The last time Duke played at Kansas' Allen Fieldhouse was in 1988. These high-profile exhibitions offer teams a chance to compete at a high level without affecting their records. They also generate significant revenue, with games often sponsored and broadcast by major companies. Kansas coach Bill Self emphasizes the importance of these games both on and off the court. Despite not counting toward official records, such games carry pride and legacy for both teams, especially Kansas, which recently lost an exhibition to Louisville.

PARIS (AP) — A day after more mass protests and clashes in Paris, the atmosphere was jovial and upbeat among American football fans attending the NFL’s first game in France. Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints fans mingled around the Stade de France before the match. There was a visible but discreet police presence at the national stadium, where about 76,000 fans attended the sold-out contest. Security concerns in Paris dominated media discussions but did not dampen sprits much, with Saints fan Rachel Rushing saying “we’ve really enjoyed Paris" and "not had any issues.”

The race for a spot in the newly expanded 76-team version of March Madness starts next week. Which players are eligible for which teams? That's still a work in progress. A raft of lawsuits over the NCAA's five-year eligibility rule has left coaches uncertain about the fate of hundreds of players with the season about to start. Even so, this year's list of favorites looks familiar. AP preseason No. 1 and 2 — Florida and Duke — are both 6-to-1 favorites to cut down the nets at the Final Four in Detroit next April.

JuJu Watkins is back as women’s college basketball has one of its brightest stars returning from an ACL injury that sidelined the USC guard all of last season. Watkins headlines a talented group of stars, including AP Player of the Year Sarah Strong of UConn, Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame and South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards. Dawn Staley’s top-ranked Gamecocks are looking to rebound from last season’s national championship game loss to UCLA. The Bruins took a huge hit with their top six players all getting drafted by WNBA teams. Still coach Cori Close used the transfer portal well to bring in a new group to try and defend the Bruins first NCAA title.

SÖLDEN, Austria (AP) — Brazilian Olympic champion Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won the season-opening World Cup giant slalom and extended his winning streak in the discipline to four races. At last season’s Milan Cortina Games, the Norwegian-born Pinheiro Braathen earned South America its first medal at a Winter Olympics. Pinheiro Braathen added to his first-run advantage and finished nearly a half-second ahead of the two Swiss skiers who completed the podium. Olympic slalom champion Loic Meillard finished second, 0.48 seconds behind, and five-time defending overall champion Marco Odermatt came third, 0.49 back. American racer River Radamus moved up from 15th after the first run to finish fourth, 0.82 behind.
