LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell hit back-to-back homers off Blake Snell in the seventh inning to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. The win gave the Brewers a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Dodgers had just gone ahead 2-1 in the sixth before the Brewers' comeback. The loss puts the two-time defending World Series champions on the brink of elimination. Game 4 is Thursday at Dodger Stadium. The Brewers extended their lead with additional runs in the eighth and ninth. The Dodgers have struggled offensively, with no home runs in the series.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a tough spot, facing elimination in the postseason. They're down 3-0 against the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers need to win four straight games to advance, starting Thursday at Dodger Stadium. Offense has been a struggle, with the team going 3 for 32 with runners in scoring position in the postseason. The two-time defending World Series champions are going for a three-peat that seems increasingly unlikely. Manager Dave Roberts says the team needs to find its offense and grab a lead instead of playing from behind. Max Muncy says the Dodgers have the pitching staff to turn around the NLCS, but the offense needs to get going.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani singled after being dropped to sixth in the batting order for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers lost 6-2 to the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, leaving them trailing 3-0 and on the brink of elimination. It's the lowest Ohtani has hit since joining the Dodgers three years ago. Manager Dave Roberts wanted to alternate right- and left-handed hitters against Milwaukee's left-handed starter, Robert Gasser. Ohtani has been struggling with injuries and is batting .182 over seven postseason games. He hasn’t homered since August.

Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson to had his two-game suspension for punching a member of the Buffalo Bills reduced to one game on Wednesday after appealing the initial ruling. Hearing officer Derrick Brooks, jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA, reduced the suspension. Jackson was disciplined without pay for striking Buffalo linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face after their teams’ overtime game Monday night. He will not play in the Rams’ game against Arizona on Sunday, but now will be eligible for the Oct. 25 meeting at Las Vegas. David Quessenberry will be the Rams’ starting left tackle against the Cardinals.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Four men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White at a nightclub in February. The shooting occurred Feb. 9 at the Dahlia nightclub where White was hosting a private Super Bowl party. San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew says authorities arrested the men last week with the help of law enforcement agencies in various cities. Two of the men will appear in court Wednesday and face various firearm charges. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins says prosecutors will seek no bail for one man due to the public safety risk they say he poses.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL's Player Safety room in Manhattan is buzzing with activity, especially on busy nights when all 32 teams are in action. This room is crucial for monitoring head injuries and determining disciplinary actions. Concussion spotters are on the front lines, alerting team medical staff about potential head injuries. The process for supplemental discipline begins here, with detailed reports and video clips sent to the department. George Parros, who oversees player safety decisions, reviews these reports. The system, established in 2011, ensures that every incident is noticed, even if decisions aren't always agreed upon.

Angel Reese is the biggest star left on the WNBA’s brightest stage as she gets her first chance at winning a pro championship. It's been a tumultuous journey but coming to Atlanta this season has been the perfect move for the three-time All-Star. She has done so much this year to silence many of her critics. Leading the Dream to a title would quiet the rest of them when the best-of-seven series against the Golden State Valkyries begins Saturday in California. Reese is the first player from the heralded 2024 draft class that saw Caitlin Clark go No. 1 to reach the finals as a starter.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Three weeks ago, the Texas-Florida matchup looked like a potential blockbuster. The Longhorns were No. 1 behind quarterback Arch Manning. The Gators were storming up the rankings behind first-year coach Jon Sumrall, prompting declarations that Florida was back among the Southeastern Conference’s elite programs. Those were the good times. Both teams now limp into Saturday’s game with battered and bruised bodies and egos, and a whiff of desperation chasing a win to keep the season from unraveling.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The women’s basketball franchise Joe Lacob always envisioned while owning the Golden State Warriors has come together in all the right ways and in short order – from relatable players other teams overlooked to leadership from the top down and smart branding with a raven “bestie” Violet who flew through the arena earlier this season. Just don’t call her a mascot. On Saturday, Lacob will be there cheering from courtside as his Golden State Valkyries begin their quest for a WNBA championship in just Year 2 of existence. And whatever happens, Lacob is immensely proud.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Rodrigo De Paul scored on an assist from Lionel Messi and Germán Berterame added a goal to send reigning champion Inter Miami back to the MLS playoffs with a 2-0 win over New York City FC on Wednesday night. Luis Suárez also assisted for Inter Miami, which has won back-to-back matches for the first time since July. Miami missed the postseason when Messi arrived in 2023, but has reached the playoffs the past three seasons, losing in the first round to Atlanta United in 2024 then beating Vancouver last year to win the club’s first MLS Cup
