Tuesday’s Barton County Commission meeting was a short one but not without a somber note to begin things. Commissioner Donna Zimmerman suggested a moment of silence for former County Appraiser Kyle Radenberg, who passed away on July 23.
Then it was business as usual. County Works Director Chris Schartz approached the board for approval of upcoming work in the city of Claflin.
“The city of Claflin, every year, requests assistance for sealing of certain roads in the city,” he said. “This year, they’re requesting assistance on Pine Street, all of A Street, then Williamson Street from Main Street to C Street. We just usually, when we’re in the area and go through there, we help seal their roads for them every year.”
As an independent contractor, the county will receive no more than $7,500 for labor and equipment to complete the work. The city of Claflin will provide the oil necessary for the seal. Barton County charges standard Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) rates for the work.
