Wearing a seat belt while driving has been stressed for decades, but the use of car seats or booster seats for younger children is more unknown. According to the American Red Cross, children should use car seats until the lap-shoulder belt fits properly, typically for children ages 8 to 12 or over 4’9”.
Barton County Commissioner Tricia Schlessiger said if you have questions if your car seats are installed properly, the Barton County Health Department will have car seat technicians on hand Friday, March 21 in Ellinwood.
"They will also have inflatables there as part of the Ellinwood Chamber Coffee," said Schlessiger. "They'll do car seat safety checks. So if anyone needs their car seat safety checked, go to Ellinwood on Friday."
The car seat install and check event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the band shell in Wolf Park in Ellinwood, 2nd Street and Main Street.
