Sanae Hassnaoui of the nationally No. 2 ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the week two USTFCCCA NJCAA Indoor Women's Athlete of the Week.
Hassnaoui earns the program's second consecutive national honor in following men's thrower Christopher Young's distinction last week and joins T'Nia Riley (2019) and Ayesha Champagnie (2016) to earn the weekly national indoor award on the women's side of the program.
The freshman from Morocco is off to a fast start in her collegiate debut season with consecutive weeks of making impacts within the storied program record book.
This past Saturday at the Washburn Rust Buster in Topeka, Hassnaoui not only won the mile event by fourteen seconds of the 104 competitor field but did so in a program second best time of 4:51.25 to additionally rank as the NJCAA's 7th best all-time and fastest since 2018.
Hassnaoui now ranks at the top of two NJCAA leader lists on the season as she won the 1000 meters two weeks ago at Texas Tech with a program 6th best time of 2:56.76. Three hours later Hassnaoui nearly pulled off two titles on the day but crossed a mere .06 seconds too late in settling for second place in the 800m at a slow race paced 2:18.40 which currently stands as the season's 7th best time.
