Larry Teichmann, age 82

Larry Dean Teichmann, 82, passed away January 25, 2025, surrounded by family at Clara Barton Medical Center, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born on March 10, 1942, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Ellsworth Oscar “Bud” and Merica Elaine “Mickey” (McGinnis) Teichmann.

Larry was a long time Great Bend resident having grown up on a farm north of Hudson. Always seeking knowledge and enjoying a hard day’s work, Larry became a Master Electrician and worked for Amerine Electric becoming co-owner before leaving and starting Teichmann Electric, Inc. in 1977, which he operated until his retirement in 2016. Larry was a member of the Peace Church, longtime volunteer for Boy Scout Troop #157, Campfire Girls, 4-H, and the Barton County Fair where he was known as “Papa Smurf” and “Barn Boss”. He was a Barton County Fair Board Member for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing – being a member of the Striper Fishing Club, and spending time with his family and friends. He continued his love of raising farm animals until his death.

Survivors include two sons, Travis (Tracey) Teichmann of Nashville, Tennessee, J.J. (Stephanie) Meier of Great Bend; three daughters, Michelle (Marc) Fischer of Hudson, Heidi (Tim) Fulcher of Coldspring, Texas, and Shayla (Mike) Satterlee of Cheney; nine grandchildren, Bradly (Callie) Fischer, Aaron (Gabby) Roach, Kurtis Fischer, Amanda (Ryan) Hickel, Heather (Lance) Kitchen, Reba Ream, Claire Teichmann, Ashlyn and Lane Satterlee; seven great grandchildren, Paityn, Carter, Cayson Roach; Colton, Camden Fischer; Hadley Hickel + 1 in April; Kally McCann; sister, Barbara (Gene) Erb of Ness City; former wife, Gail (Wiltse) Hamilton; and long time friend, Rosie Meier. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Peace Church with Pastor Troy Miller presiding. Inurnment will follow at Peace Church Cemetery north of Hudson. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving during that time.
