While there are many events and celebrations that welcome the Christmas season to the Great Bend area, Santa’s Workshop is tailored to usher in the holiday spirit for children.
The 26th Annual Santa’s Workshop, hosted by the Great Bend Recreation Commission at the City Auditorium, will take place Monday, Dec. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Rec
Enrichment Director Garet Fitzpatrick said the free Christmas event is designed
for preschool through sixth graders and their families.
"It's a fun-family event," said Fitzpatrick. "We have so many people that help with it. We get high schools kids, local law enforcement, EMS and fire department handing out candy or crafts. We have great sponsors."

Children can participate at holiday-themed booths through the night and visit
Santa Claus with their wish list. Many volunteers are on hand to execute the
event in its 26th year.
"It's been around for 26 years and it's growing," said Fitzpatrick. "When I'm out and about, I'll hear people say 'I took my kids and now I get to take my grandkids.' It's a big event for the community and a big event for the Rec."
A mini Santa’s Workshop will be provided in the Burnside Room, inside the
Recreation Center on Stone Street, designed for preschoolers.
"When everything is rolling, I go up to the top of the auditorium," said Fitzpatrick. "I'm looking down and see people everywhere mingling. There are smiles on faces. It's a lot of fun."
The Great Bend Rec asks participants to enter through the doors located on the southwest
corner of the auditorium.
