Rebels in Blue program by Darren Ivey of Barton Community College

The Barton County Historical Society welcomes Darren L. Ivey, Director of Library & College Archives, to present in our Ray Schulz Memorial Library on Monday, July 24. Darren’s program will be “Rebels in Blue: Galvanized Yankees on the Santa Fe Trail.” It will present a general history of Confederate prisoners of war that volunteered for frontier duty with the U.S. Army and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Barton County Historical Society, 85 S. Highway 281, Great Bend.

Admission is free for members of the society and $5 for individuals over 16 wishing to attend the program. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Light refreshments are provided and the bottled water for attendees is provided by Wheatland Electric. The Barton County Historical Society is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday all year and has summer hours in April, from 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
