From KDOT

The Kansas Department of Transportation is set to begin a bridge replacement project for the Pawnee River bridge on U.S. 56 southwest of Larned on or around July 15.

U.S. 56 will be closed at the bridge. Motorists should follow the signed detour using K-156 and U.S. 183.

Conditions permitting, the project should be finished by early 2027.

When doing construction projects on state routes, KDOT designates official detours on the nearest state highways for safety and maintenance considerations.

Bridges, Inc., based in Newton, is the primary contractor for the project, which totals around $2.3 million.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from hand-held mobile device use in all active work zones.
