Great Bend Public Lands Director Scott Keeler gave his staff a shout out at last week’s Great Bend City Council meeting, commending their efforts on decorating the city with Christmas lights and displays.

Keeler noted staff worked hard to make more of the displays animated to improve the experience of those that drive through the Trail of Lights.

"With moisture last week, we've been fighting the GFI recepticals," said Keeler. "The moisture takes a few of them out. We can usually reset them the next day. We continue to work on them to get them all fixed."

Highlight areas for the city’s Trail of Lights include stops at Brit Spaugh Park, Veterans Memorial Park and the Barton County Courthouse square.

Along with Dolly Trolley rides taking off from Perks Coffee during the evenings, there will be carriage rides offered for $30 starting this Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 at Brit Spaugh Park from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  The service will be offered again Dec. 22 and Dec. 23. Call 620-786-2161 to book a ride.
