UNDATED (AP) — Kansas State and Jerome Tang agreed to a new seven-year contract Monday. The deal comes after the men’s basketball coach took a program that had just two returning players and was picked last in the Big 12 to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season. Tang was working on a six-year deal that he signed last year. He will be paid $3 million for the upcoming season with $100,000 raises each year, finishing with $3.6 million for the 2029-30 season. He also will earn $200,000 retention bonuses after the next four seasons.

DETROIT (AP) — Akil Baddoo and Parker Meadows hit consecutive homers to lead off a four-run eighth inning and the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Tuesday night. Zack Greinke pitched five shutout innings, and saw his winless streak grow to 22 games (19 starts) since a 6-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on May 3. He has gone more than two years without a win on the road, losing 18 of 31 appearances.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers clinched the NL Central title for the third time in six seasons Tuesday night, despite a 4-1 loss to the last-place St. Louis Cardinals and with the help of a come-from-behind win by the Atlanta Braves. Milwaukee clinched its second division crown in three seasons when the Chicago Cubs dropped a 7-6 decision to the Braves. The Milwaukee crowd roared as the ninth inning of the Cubs-Braves game was shown on the scoreboard.

DENVER (AP) — Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer to back the strong seven-inning start by rookie Bobby Miller, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Colorado 11-2 on Tuesday night to gain a doubleheader split and send the Rockies to their first 100-loss season. Chase Anderson pitched five scoreless innings for his first win in 17 starts this season and Nolan Jones homered in Colorado’s 4-1 win in the opener. David Peralta and Chris Taylor each hit two-run singles in a five-run second inning, James Outman added four hits and Max Muncy and Kiki Hernandez had three hits apiece in the nightcap. Elehuris Montero homered for Colorado.

NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift’s trip to watch the Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce didn’t just have the internet talking nonstop. Following the 12-time Grammy Award winner’s appearance at Arrowhead Stadium, jersey sales for the All-Pro tight-end seemingly skyrocketed. According to sportswear and fan merchandise company Fanatics, Kelce saw a nearly 400% increase in sales the same day that Swift went to watch the Chiefs. Kelce did not speak to reporters afterward, but he was spotted leaving Arrowhead with Swift by his side. Swift, who is currently on a break from her Eras tour, has always been reluctant to discuss her personal life in public — but rumors have been flying about the popstar and the pro football player in recent months.

UNDATED (AP) — The Big 12's four new schools are seeing the positive effects of membership in a Power Five conference. Cincinnati, Houston, BYU and Central Florida accepted invitations in 2021 and are now in their first year of competition. Ticket and merchandise sales are up and so are private donations to the schools' athletic departments. Houston's football season ticket sales reached 27,000 for an increase of 8,000 over last year. BYU sold out of season tickets faster than ever. Donations to Cincinnati have reached unprecedented levels and a campaign to raise $100 million by June 2024 reached its goal nine months early.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough is set for surgery Tuesday on a broken left fibula that could keep him out for the rest of the regular season. Coach Joey McGuire says Shough will be out at least six to eight weeks. It is the third season in a row since joining the Red Raiders that Shough will miss significant time because of an injury. The sixth-year senior and former Oregon Duck was hurt in the first quarter of Tech's loss at West Virginia on Saturday. Behren Morton is expected to take over as the starter when Texas Tech hosts Big 12 newcomer Houston this weekend.

UNDATED (AP) — College Football Playoff managers will meet this week at the Big Ten offices outside Chicago. With the future of the Pac-12 still unsettled, it will be difficult for them to make a final decision on whether the number of places reserved for conference champions in the soon-to-be expanded field should remain six or be reduced to five. The CFP management committee will gather Tuesday and Wednesday at the Big Ten offices. The playoff expands from four teams to 12 next season, but conference realignment has led to a reconsideration about the selection process.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels already has delivered one program-shaking play against Texas. He would love to do it again. Quinn Ewers has guided Texas to a win over Alabama that changed the trajectory of the season for the Longhorns. His goal is to keep them barreling ahead on course to a Big 12 title. The No. 24 Jayhawks and No. 3 Longhorns meet Saturday with both teams 4-0. It will be Daniels’ game-winning, scrambling 2-point conversion pass to Jared Casey in overtime in 2021 that will get talked about all week.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson, whose deft glovework and folksy manner made him one of the most beloved and accomplished athletes in Baltimore history, has died. He was 86. The Orioles announced his death in a joint statement with Robinson’s family. The statement did not say how Robinson died. Coming of age before the free agent era, Robinson spent his entire 23-year career with the Orioles. He almost single-handedly helped Baltimore defeat Cincinnati in the 1970 World Series and homered in Game 1 of the Orioles’ 1966 sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers for their first crown.

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Europe is missing a lot of its Ryder Cup stalwarts at Marco Simone because of their defections to join LIV Golf. Rory McIlroy says they will be missing the Ryder Cup more than Team Europe will be missing them. That includes Lee Westwood, missing for the first time since 1997. Sergio Garcia tried to make good with the European tour to get back to the Ryder Cup but it was too late for him. The Americans already dealt with the LIV effect at the Presidents Cup. Now it's Europe's turn. Justin Rose says it's good to get new people involved.

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Justin Thomas is more concerned with the Americans winning the Ryder Cup than criticism about him being on the team. His Ryder Cup record speaks for itself. His form is another matter. He didn't make the PGA Tour postseason for the first time and had to rely on being a captain's pick. Thomas says he's not keeping receipts on those who doubt him. He says if captain Zach Johnson and the rest of Team USA didn't want him, he wouldn't be at Marco Simone. He likely will be playing alongside Jordan Spieth, who says Thomas simple knows how to win matches.
