Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Arnberger informed the Great Bend City Council Monday that progress on the childcare project continues to move forward.
Advancing Barton County Childcare, established by Economic
Development, has taken on the task to find the funding for a $1.6 million group
daycare in Great Bend to serve up to 59 children. Arnberger said applications
have been received for the site director position and the project will soon be
sent out for bids.
"Last week we were able to send out our RFQ (request for quote) for construction managers," said Arnberger. "Once the construction manager is chosen, they will lead the bid process for subcontractors."

Last week a “coming soon” sign was placed at the childcare site at 10th Street
and K-96 Highway.
The 4,500 square-foot daycare center is anticipated to be the first of multiple
daycares built around Barton County.
"We are so excited to be at this point in this project," said Arnberger. "It has certainly taken a long time to get here, but the product is going to be absolutely wonderful. The team has been working really hard."
