
Cheryl F. Broaderway
Cheryl F. (Reifschneider) Broaderway, 80, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on June 22, 2026, in Great Bend. She was born on April 1, 1946, in Garden City, Kansas, to Henry and Bertha Reifschneider.
Cheryl was raised on the family farm in Dighton, Kansas, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and kindness that she carried throughout her life. She attended the Sidney School of Cosmetology in Hays, Kansas, and began her career as a beautician in Ness City.
Cheryl later moved to Junction City, Kansas, where she met Johnnie Ray Broaderway at the NCO Club on post at Fort Riley in June of 1971. The two were united in marriage on January 29, 1972, in Fort Riley. Shortly after Johnnie completed his service in the Army in March of 1972, they made their home in Great Bend, Kansas, where they built their life and raised their family.
Cheryl dedicated her early years to raising her children before beginning her career with USD 428 in the 1980s. She first worked in the cafeteria before becoming a paraeducator, a role she continued until her retirement in 1997. Cheryl and Johnnie were longtime members of Fellowship of Faith in Great Bend.
Family was always at the center of Cheryl’s life. She enjoyed time spent with those she loved and held a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Ray Broaderway; son, Tim Broaderway (Angela); daughter, Kim Hammeke (Tim); grandchildren, Logan Hammeke (Braeley), Landen Hammeke, and Madelyn Hammeke; and brother, Dale Reifschneider.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bertha Reifschneider; her late husband, Rick Richardson; brothers, Gerald and James Reifschneider; and sister, Betty Stithem.
A private visitation will be held for the family. Graveside services will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Great Bend Cemetery.
Memorials have been designated to the Great Bend Humane Society in honor of Cheryl’s love for animals, especially dogs.
Care has been entrusted to Spellman-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, Kansas.
