Towards the end of April, the Great Bend Convention & Visitors Bureau posted a message on their marque sign in front of the Events Center on 10th Street that asked local businesses if they wanted to start a “sign war.” The community responded with area businesses calling out other stores and cracking jokes in good humor.

The City of Great Bend shared pictures of the sign responses on the Explore Great Bend Facebook page. CVB Director Christina Hayes said the city has received more than 6.7 million impressions on their Facebook page from people following the “sign war.”

A specific Wendy’s Restaurant sign stirred up a lot of interest with millions of views.

"It was the sign they put up that said...'2020 No TP, 2021 No Employees,'" said Hayes. "It went viral and you will still see it. It definitely made our sign war really big and it's good for our Facebook page."

Hayes said the national marketing team for Wendy’s contacted Great Bend after receiving word of the sign and Wendy’s CEO became aware of the sign.
