STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Ollie Gordon II had 284 yards and two touchdowns from scrimmage to help Oklahoma State defeat No. 23 Kansas 39-32. Gordon ran for a career-high 168 yards and caught six passes for a career-best 116 yards. He became the first Oklahoma State player since Gerald Hudson in 1989 to have at least 100 yards rushing and receiving in a game. The Cowboys gained 554 yards to win their second straight after upsetting Kansas State last Friday. Jason Bean passed for career highs of 410 yards and five touchdowns for Kansas. He threw two interceptions.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Freshman quarterback Avery Johnson ran for five touchdowns, a first in FBS this season, while sharing time with starter Will Howard, and Kansas State beat Texas Tech 38-21. Johnson finished with 91 yards rushing as the Wildcats bounced back from a surprising loss at Oklahoma State with an eighth consecutive victory in the series for the defending Big 12 champions. Jake Strong led a 99-yard drive to the only lead for Texas Tech in his debut in the third quarter. He had replaced injured starter Behren Morton. The freshman threw three interceptions after the Wildcats had gone back in front.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Redshirt freshman Josh Hoover threw for 439 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for TCU as the Horned Frogs beat Big 12 newcomer BYU 44-11. The Horned Frogs jumped ahead 14-0 in the game's first five minutes. Millard Bradford had a 35-yard interception return for a TD and Hoover's first drive ended with a 42-yard TD to JP Richardson. Hoover completed 37 of 58 passes. BYU was held to a season-low 243 total yards. Kedon Slovis was 15-of-34 passing for 152 yards with that interception and a lost fumble. Hoover started in place of the injured Chandler Morris.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Rocco Becht throws two touchdowns and runs for another, and the Iowa State defense collects two more interceptions as the Cyclones defeat Cincinnati 30-10 in the teams’ first-ever meeting. The Cyclones entered the day with 10 interceptions, third-most in the FBS. Emory Jones. tossed his sixth interception in the last four games to cornerback T.J. Tampa, giving the Cyclones the ball at the Cincinnati 34-yard line. The turnover set up a 30-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead with 2:12 to play in the first quarter. Jones responded by throwing a 20-yard score to tight end Chamon Metayer. It was the third touchdown for Metayer in the last two games and the first for Jones and the Bearcats offense in their last 17 drives at home.
UNDATED (AP) — Imagine football without the kick. No. 8 Oregon and No. 7 Washington gave a glimpse into that world Saturday in what might go down as the game of the year. The final play was a missed field goal by the Ducks — cruel irony in some ways — that allowed the Huskies to stay unbeaten. Both Oregon coach Dan Lanning and Washington’s Kalen DeBoer fully embraced four-down football. And we should, too — even when it doesn’t work out. Plus, after Caleb Williams threw three interceptions against Notre Dame, Archie Griffin's Heisman record looks safe.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Xavier Watts intercepted Caleb Williams twice and returned a fumble for a touchdown as No. 21 Notre Dame harassed the Heisman Trophy winner and handed No. 10 Southern California its first loss in a 48-20 victory. Having lost twice in the three games, the Fighting Irish bounced back against their longtime rivals in a big way. Watts had two of Notre Dame’s three first-half picks against Williams and then a 15-yard scoop-and-score with 3:27 left to add an exclamation point. Audric Estime ran for two touchdowns for the Irish.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Carson Beck threw for 261 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score as top-ranked Georgia shook off both an early kickoff and losing star tight end Brock Bowers to a left foot injury before halftime in beating Vanderbilt 37-20 Saturday. Georgia extended its school record and longest active FBS winning streak to 24 consecutive games. Bowers hurt his left foot midway through the second quarter. It didn't matter as Georgia scored 27 straight points to take control. Vanderbilt lost its sixth straight overall and sixth consecutive to Georgia.
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston dominated Texas during the regular season, winning nine of 13 matchups. Now the Rangers get another chance at the Astros when they meet for the first time in the playoffs in a Texas-sized showdown in AL Championship Series with a trip to the World Series on the line starting Sunday night in Houston. The Astros completed the regular season matchup against the Rangers with a three-game walloping at the beginning of September. Houston clubbed 16 homers to sweep that series by a combined score of 39-10. But despite the lopsided results this season, both teams say they’ll start with a clean slate for this series.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — High-scoring Iowa star Caitlin Clark doesn’t expect to have much shooting touch Sunday when the Hawkeyes play DePaul in an outdoor exhibition at Kinnick Stadium. She says she probably will shoot a couple air balls because of wind and depth perception issues in a big stadium. More than 50,000 tickets have been sold for the event at the 69,000-seat stadium. Proceeds benefit the university’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The forecast calls for temperatures in the low 50s, cloudy skies and north wind at 10-20 mph. There is only a slight chance of rain.
