An abandoned structure caught on fire early Wednesday morning as members of the Great Bend Fire Department were dispatched to the 200 block of Pine Street in Great Bend.
Crews received the fire call at 2:59 a.m. and found the structure fully involved in fire with flames coming through the roof. Firefighters had to take a defensive stand on the fire with multiple lines deployed. Crews were also dealing with -20 to -30-degree wind chills. Due to weather conditions mutual aid was requested from the Ellinwood Fire Department.

Crews were on scene for approximately 2.5 hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the State Fire Marshals office called in to assist in the investigation.
Other responding agencies included the Great Bend Police Department, Wheatland Electric and Kansas Gas.
