
On Thursday, Feb. 9, at approximately 2 p.m., officers from the Great Bend Police Department were called to the 2700 block of 10th Street in Great Bend in reference to a disturbance occurring at the Casey's General Store.
Officers and Detectives arrived on scene and located several individuals reporting a male suspect displaying bizarre behavior and attempting to force a female into his maroon Chevy Lumina 4-door near the intersection of 10th Street and Jefferson.
Jonathon Hertel, age 25, was located on scene in his maroon Chevy passenger car and detained at that time. After completing the interviews on scene and obtaining video footage of the incident, Hertel was placed under arrest on charges of attempted kidnapping, criminal threat, battery and driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Hertel was transported to the Barton County Jail and booked in lieu of bond. Great Bend Police Department D.R.E. (Drug Recognition Expert) also responded to the incident to evaluate Hertel and determined impairment.
