Lisa Ann Edgett, 63, of Great Bend died September 9, 2021 at her home in Great Bend. She was born September 22, 1957, in Great Bend to Carlos and Mary (Downey) Miller. She married Guy Disney on July 24, 1979, and gained a stepson, Jared Disney and stepdaughter, Lisa Disney. They later divorced. She married Kenneth Edgett on December 26, 2009.
After graduating from Great Bend High School in 1975, she attended Barton County Community Junior College and then Ottawa University where she received her teaching degree. She earned her Master's degree from Kansas State University. She taught at Park and Jefferson schools in Great Bend for 34 years, retiring in 2015. Since retiring, she was a substitute teacher in Ellinwood, St. Joseph’s in Ellinwood, St. John, Otis-Bison, Hoisington, Central Kansas Christian Academy, Holy Family, and Great Bend grade schools. For many years she also worked the night shift every quarter in the support department at CPI to get reports printed and sent out. Up until her death, she worked the Great Bend High School games taking tickets and sometimes working in the concession stand. She was also known for her decorated cakes and her bierocks which she did for relaxation.
As a teenager, Lisa was a member of Job’s Daughters and was the Honor Queen for the State of Kansas. She loved music and singing and belonged to the Madrigal Pop Singers in high school and the Hilltop Singers at BCCJC. She was also a member of the Argonne Rebels in Great Bend. She grew up in the Central Baptist Church where she played piano for some of their services. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she also played piano for the services. She was a Past Noble Grand of Martha Rebekah Lodge #425 in St. John, member of Valley Lodge #95, I.O.O.F. in Great Bend, and Pratt Lodge #248, I.O.O.F. in Pratt. She was an avid Bunco player, looking forward to their monthly gatherings.
Those that knew her would say she was always there to help anyone who needed help, usually making sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. She loved teaching kids and seeing that moment when things ‘clicked’. She was always there to help any child that needed help, be it math, reading, or any subject they were struggling with and would tutor on the side so they would not have to struggle in the classroom. She was also known for her joyful attitude, greeting everyone with a smile. The joys of her life were her Dachshunds, Winnie and Dixie.
She is survived by her husband, Ken of the home; extended family, Angie and Jarred Stoney, grandsons Jordan, Javen, and Jamieson; sisters, Jill (Tom) Pletcher of Wichita and Lorrie (Shane) Kromka of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Maribeth Miller of Mason, MI; nieces and nephew, Amy (John), Jasmine (Deacon) and Brandon; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernice and Norman Edgett of Plainville; brothers-in-law, Brian Edgett of Plainville, Gary (Kim) Edgett of Topeka, and Greg (Michelle) Edgett of Monroe, IA; and nieces and nephews, Amber, Issac, Morgan, Mitchell, Levi and Lilly. Her extended family, Lori & Paul Jacobs of Great Bend, Jim & Diane King of Pittsburg, KS, and Karen King Smith of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Mary Miller; brothers, Douglas Miller and Phillip Miller, and her extended family mom & dad, Norma & Kenny King.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding. Those in attendance of the visitation and service are required to wear masks. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. The family wishes for her memorials to go to the organ fund at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, in care of Bryant Funeral Home
