James B. Kirby, 85, of Larned, passed away May 31, 2023, at Stormont Vail Trauma Center in Topeka, with injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in Larned, on Aug. 31, 1937, to Frank and Nellie Kirby.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, brother Dean Kirby, sister-in-law Glenda Kirby, wife Judith Kirby.
He married Judith Rice in 1960. Having four children, Jeanice Corbitt (Eric), Eudora, Jackie Hardesty (Randy), Kinsley, Jill Young (Chris), Wichita, Jamie Kirby (Caci), Larned.
Later he married Margery Salmans McCubbin in 1994. Children: Sharla Clark (Kent) Hutchinson, Keith McCubbin (Denise), Hutchinson.
He had 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jim was a farmer and rancher for over 70 years, loving the land. Retiring from farming and moving to town in 2019, he worked for Hi Pro Inc for four years delivering mail. He served six years in the Army National Guard and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW, American Legion, and Pawnee County 4-H, all of Larned.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned with family present from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.
