K-9 Menta assists with two drug arrests in Great Bend

On April 6, at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1100 block of K-96 Highway for a moving infraction.

During the traffic stop, K9 Menta was utilized to conduct a free air sniff, where she alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. Officers located prescription medications, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside of the vehicle. Officers also located a pair of brass knuckles and a firearm.

The driver of the vehicle, Laughn Seltmann, age 56, was placed under arrest for possession of controlled substances, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a weapon, unlawful carry of a weapon, driving while suspended and no proof of current insurance. Seltmann was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of bond.

On April 7, at approximately 2:39 p.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 block of Garfield Street for an equipment infraction.

During the traffic stop, K9 Menta was utilized to conduct a free air sniff, where she alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. Officers located a glass pipe containing a white residue and a small bag containing a white powdery substance.

The driver of the vehicle, Crystal Bates, age 38, was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without a license. BATES was transported to the Barton County Jail where she was booked in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
