In early January of this year, the Great Bend City Council approved the renewed lease near the Great Bend Municipal Airport to Kestrel, Inc. Kestrel owns the buildings on the just over a half acre of land on 4th Street.

In recent years, Kestrel has sublet the ground and buildings to Med-Trans, also known as Eagle Med for their operations. City Attorney Allen Glendenning said that sublease was just renewed.

"All we lease to Kestrel is the ground," said Glendenning. "They own the buildings. They are subleasing the ground plus their buildings. They are bringing in more money than they're paying us, but they're also giving more."

The previous lease between the city and Kestrel prohibited subletting without the city’s written consent. The city council approved the sublease agreement and authorized the city administrator to give written consent on behalf of the city.

Kestrel’s approved lease pays the city $1,125 per year for the remaining four years on the lease.
