A suspended driver's license, higher insurance rates, and spending New Year's Day in jail, not to mention the risk to other drivers. The consequences of driving impaired are no way to begin 2024. Eagle Radio, along with several community partners and the Great Bend Police Department, wants to eliminate those risks with the New Year's Eve Taxi. Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark encourages party-goers to use the service.

"The officer that's working will be here from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m.," he said. "Anyone wanting a ride anywhere in Barton County, give them a call and we'd love to get them home safely. Any money raised is going to go to Shop with a Cop for next year. This year, between the Fraternal Order of Police and the money we raised last year, we were able to shop and provide Christmas presents for 38 kids in our community."

Marmie's has loaned a car to the police department for the taxi this year. For a $10 donation, a police officer will safely transport residents home anywhere in Barton County. Call (620) 639-TAXI (8294) to arrange a ride.

This year's taxi is sponsored by Z's Liquor, Z's Liquormart, Nex-Tech Wireless, Freedom Claims Management, Miller Plastics, Haz-Mat Response, and Sunflower Diversified Services.
